Connelly: Preserving a pearl of a view — Oyster Dome on Blanchard Mountain is saved

The last pieces fall in place to create a 1,600 acre natural area on Blanchard Mountain, state-owned land above Chuckanut Drive south of Bellingham. It is the one place in Western Washington where mountains reach tidewater.

Such spots as Samish Overlook and Oyster Dome are famed for their views.  The Legislature made a $10 million capital budget appropriation last year.  The final enabling legislation is going through this week.
