  4. Used to clean the windows of the toll booths. Stinky job. I don’t know how those toll takers could stand to breathe CO/HC all day.

  6. Anyone remember when several of the toll-takers were arrested for embezzling a lot of toll money. One of them was an older guy that my mother always thought was so sweet. She didn’t after this story broke,

    Worked at my uncles Pontiac dealership in Bellevue 1976.
    Drove the parts truck and went over the bridge and through that toll booth hundreds of times!
    Second job out of high school Lakeside Pontiac!

  12. so a 35c toll in 1975 (according to the article about workers stealing the tolls above) is $1.66 today

  13. I remember going over the bridge with my Dad. He was always looking for change in the car. Our neighbor worked in the booth. I remember when we were done paying for the bridge

  16. When I got my first car my sister and I went for a joyride and ended up crossing the Tollbridge but I didn’t have any change so they made me pull over to the little house they were very grumpy and I had to mail in my toll when I got home😂

  17. We were driving home one day with about 10 kids in the station wagon. My brother was driving. Pulled up to the toll and said “I don’t have a dime even if I did we have enough for three carpools”
    ….. now the steering on the Buick estate wagon was a little loose and as my brother pulled away he ran into the cement block… 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂

  18. Old toll booth joke… “So, I’ve been paying this toll for years, isn’t this bridge/highway paid for yet?” “Yes it is.” “Then why am I still paying a toll then?” “Maintenance on the toll booth…”

  21. So Friday afternoon rush traffic my MG decides to have its fuel filter go bad. You really didn’t want to be the one even back in the late 70’s.

  23. Wow! I remember being in the car with my mom. She’d start scrambling for change. I was a little kid and was scared something bad would happen to us if she couldn’t find coins.
